These days, it’s nearly unavoidable to be discouraged by the work ethic (or, perhaps more aptly described, lack thereof) of today’s young people. That’s why it is so inspiring to see the mold broken by some upstanding members of the community who care deeply about an honest day’s work.
This week, the folks here at the DT would like to shine a spotlight on one such group: A team of traffic cones who are really out their doing their job!

Demanding the respect of the road in such a high-risk position is certainly commendable on its own, but these little orange fellas go above and beyond in their unflinching resolution; these meter-high-heroes will stop at nothing to ensure the safety of their particular construction site’s workers and motorists alike.
Working in conjunction with Farelly Construction Company, this team of hazard-meisters refuses to leave their post until the job is done.
“I dunno how they do it,” remarked FCCo. foreman Justin Conrad. “They show up before we do every morning and stay after we all turn in. Wish some of my guys had that gusto.”
During the day, the squadron delineates the division between safe and unsafe traffic zones by unabashedly projecting their bright orange hue. At night, the work continues by use of retroreflective silver strips that shine headlights back to drowsy drivers; a beautiful and fitting method for a group that brings so much light into the world.
When asked to comment on her squad’s efficacy and dedication, the lead cone pointed to the strong sense of community, and the fear of the authoritative iron fist with which she rules.
